[UDS Updates] LightDM Will Replace GDM Login Screen in Oneiric

There was a feel for having a new login screen which gels better in terms of interface/look and feel with the new Unity interface and Ubuntu Desktop and yet which is fully featured.

After a quick discussion at UDS session today it was decided that Ubuntu 11.10 will use LightDM as default login screen manager replacing GDM.

The benefits of LightDM are that it is lighter and faster than GDM, there is a small codebase to maintain and it can be easily themed using HTML.
