Critically Acclaimed Puzzle Game 'Braid' is Now Available in Ubuntu Software Center

Popular puzzle game 'Braid' is the newest addition to Ubuntu Software Center, available in purchase section. First released for XBox Live in 2008, Braid has been highly rated by game reviewers and was also the part of Humble Indie Bundle 2.

About Braid

Braid is a platform game in painterly style where you manipulate the flow of time to solve puzzles. Every puzzle in Braid is unique;  there is no filler. Braid treats your time and attention as precious, and it does everything it can to give you a mind-expanding experience. All gameplay is based on time manipulation. You journey into worlds where time behaves strangely; observe, learn from, and then master these worlds.

History

Braid is developed by independent software developer Jonathan Blow. The game was first released on August 6, 2008 for the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade service. A Microsoft Windows version was released on April 10, 2009 followed by a port on Mac and PSN. A Linux port, created by Ryan C. Gordon, was released December 14, 2010 as part of the second Humble Indie Bundle. (Wikipedia)

User Reviews

Braid has been highly rated by users for its unique artistic style, great story and excellent gameplay. I found an excellent review of the game by fptthefirst in Ubuntu Software Center that beautifully summarizes all aspects of the game.

Braid is a platformer that gets many ideas from classic platformers, but has a style all its own. The graphics show it- smooth flowing landscapes that look like they were painted onto the screen give the levels vibrancy that I've never seen in another game. The time manipulation effects are ingenious, from slowing it down to reversing it to creating multiple copies of it.

But the best thing, of course, is the story. Told through a series of books- chapters, in fact, Braid is like playing through a mind, not just a series of world. The abilities you have tell the story as well, in a way almost too powerful to describe. And the end? Possibly the greatest twist in gaming history. It's at once philosophical and candid. Every gaming reviewer, from Game Informer to Penny Arcade, has showered it with praise.

In the end, all I can say is this: Braid is a good game. A damn good game. It made me remember why I started loving games in the first place.

Braid is available in Ubuntu Software Center for $ 9.99.
