Install GIMP 2.8 RC1 from PPA [Ubuntu 12.04]

Few days back we posted an article about a simple script that compiles latest GIMP 2.8 RC1 on your system. However, a PPA is now available for easier installation in Ubuntu 12.04.

If you installed GIMP 2.8 from script, remove it by deleting following files:
  • Delete /opt/gimp-2.8 folder
  • Delete file .local/share/applications/gimp2.8RC1.desktop
To install GIMP 2.8 in Ubuntu 12.04, run the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gimp
