Blizzard Clarifies Diablo III Ban Decision on Linux Gamers

Many Linux users started complaining in last few days that their accounts have been banned because they are using Wine to play Diablo III.

As the forum discussion on Blizzard forums regarding this issue turned bad, Blizzard Community manager responded to calm their customers.

We’ve extensively tested for false positive situations, including replicating system setups for those who have posted claiming they were banned unfairly. We’ve not found any situations that could produce a false positive, have found that the circumstances for which they were banned were clear and accurate, and we are extremely confident in our findings.

Playing the game on Linux, although not officially supported, will not get you banned – cheating will.

Still some of the Linux users are not happy. Many users were banned, all of them using Linux+Wine. They don't want to believe that all of them cheated.

However, now many other Linux users have confirmed that they are using Wine and their accounts are very much live and thus any user who is claiming that Blizzard is banning Linux users should be a cheater.

Blizzard has a policy to not to disclose the type of cheat used by a player. So nothing can be said who is in fault here, Blizzard or Linux gamers who were banned. If they are indeed cheating, it will serve as a bad example for Linux community.
