No Guild Wars 2 for Linux

Much awaited MMORPG Guild Wars 2 was released in August this year and since then it is going up and up in popularity.

There has been some rumors doing the rounds that the game may be coming to Linux. Unfortunately, in an interview with Gamingbolt, Guild Wars 2 Director Colin Johanson has said that there are no plans for a Linux port in future.

You know, it’s something that we check around every now and then, but there’s no one actively working on it right now, and we won’t be working on it in the near future. But we have talked about it, yes.

Guild Wars 2 Mac port was released in September and it is still in beta stage. Interestingly, the Mac port uses Cider by TransGaming.

Cider is a technology that allows Windows games to run on Mac OS X. It shares much of the same core technology as Cedega (proprietary fork of Wine). So Guild Wars Mac version also uses DirectX and Cider wrapper is used for rendering the game on OpenGL.
