More Unity3D Linux Games and Other Linux Gaming News

Yesterday we reported that some game studios have added Linux support to their Unity3D games. Now couple of more Unity3D games are coming to Linux.

As Linux publishing support is available only in Unity 4 mostly new games who are using latest version of the engine are adding Linux support. However, I believe existing game studios who are using Unity engine will soon upgrade to Unity 4 as Unity 3.x will be pulled out from Unity store and there will be no updates to the 3.x series. So more announcements about Linux support should be made in coming few weeks.

Lets look at new games that announced Linux support on Kickstarter:

Super Retro Squad

Super Retro Squad is a 2D platformer that features characters inspired by classic video game characters. These characters will feature unique gameplay, but their core will be based on the originals. This way, you get something old and something new, and it's all combined together for a fresh, fun experience.

The game will feature 40+ levels that will be spanned across 8 worlds. Each world will be based on one of the characters, so there will be plenty of variety found in the environments and enemies. There will also be an equipment and upgrade system that will allow you to customize your character's abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.

The game is being created by Exploding Rabbit game studio who developed highly popular game Super Mario Bros. Crossover.

Check out their Kickstarter page for more details. The game is expected to be released in March 2013.

Rival Threads : Last Class Heroes

Rival Threads : Last Class Heroes is an action RPG  featuring beautiful 2D visuals, fast paced gameplay and multiple story lines.

The concept of the Rival threads universe, in both the video game and the general fictional world, stems from the idea of controlling a Marionette with superhuman capabilities.

Players in Last Class Heroes are designated as Puppeteers and the general goal is to increase the Puppeteers' ranking in Vermilion Academy. This is achieved by challenging the other occupants of the school and defeating the strongest representatives of each of the four classes, the MVPs (Most Valuable Puppeteers).

Rival Threads is on Kickstarter and a copy of the game can be ensured for $16. Linux support has been announced with the availability of Unity 4 engine. Expected date of release is October 2012.

Other Linux Gaming News

Much awaited physics based action adventure game Tiny & Big in: Grandpa's Leftovers has been released for Linux.

You are Tiny, a technophile guy with a ray cutter, a gripping-device and a fine attitude towards the world. But now your nemesis Big again stole the only heritage your grandpa left you: A nice pair of white, fine rib underpants. So load up that selfmade raygun and rope device and take your annoying and jabbering backpack to accompany you. Run, jump, drag, shove and laser your way through the ultimately ancient scenery, gain back those underpants.

Cult: Awakening of the Old Ones is an open-ended role-playing game set in a user-generated world with a strong focus on storytelling, exploration, and environmental interaction. In simpler terms, it is about exploring a richly fleshed-out fantasy world unique from any other, with procedurally generated stories, myths, legends, civilizations, creatures, gods, and - well, basically everything.

Cult is on Kickstarter and recently it has added Linux support after completing a stretch goal of $10k. A copy of the game can be grabbed for $15, expected date of release is October 2012.

Puzzle Moppet is a challenging 3D puzzle game featuring a diminutive and apparently mute creature who is lost in a mysterious floating landscape.

The game has been released as a freeware. Get it from official website or from Ubuntu Software Center.

Do you like roguelike games like Dungeon Crawl, ToME and Dungeons and Dredmor? Epilogue is a new roguelike game for Linux that features procedurally generated areas, tons of loot, character customization, abilities etc. I was surprised at how user friendly the game is with pretty tight mouse controls.

Try a Linux demo of Epilogue from here. The full version of game is available for $7.
