How to Get Classic Gnome Menu in Unity [Install from PPA]

Few days back, we wrote about how you can use Cardapio to get a classic Gnome style menu. Now a more easier option is available, thanks to Florian Diesch who ported Classic Gnome Menu to an Application Indicator specially useful for Unity.

Apart from ease of the use, one benefit of using Classic Menu indicator is that it also shows Wine menus. Unity dash menu have no category for showing Wine games/applications and finding these applications is absolute pain.

Installable Deb packages are available but be warned that it is yet in Alpha stages so expect some bugs. You can download the package from here, then just launch Classic Menu Indicator from Unity Dash. You can also add it to startup entries.

Update: Now a PPA is available for Classic Menu Indicator. Run the following commands to add it your sources:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:diesch/testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install classicmenu-indicator

An update will be released soon with mono icons for dark and light panels.
