[Oneiric Updates] Unity 2D and Ubuntu Software Center Improvements
A new update to Unity 2D brings it almost at par with Unity 3D as now both have same shared settings. Unity 2D now uses GTK3 rendering and also new indicators. In last few days, Ubuntu 11.10 also received many other updates bringing in changes to Ubuntu Software Center, update settings and session menu.

In this big update, Unity 2D (version 3.8.12) received many fixes and new features:
Ubuntu Software Center received a new 'Top Rated' carousel and installation of local deb packages is now almost 50% faster than before.

Session indicator have got all sorts of new entries in its menu.
LightDM
In this big update, Unity 2D (version 3.8.12) received many fixes and new features:
- Unity 2D now uses dconf instead of gconf
- White backlight/highlight for pinned icons on the launcher is fixed
- Unity 2D launcher now supports KDE apps
- Pinned apps are now retained in both Unity-2D and Unity-3D
- Unity 2D follows different theme colors for the panel
- Support for launching Wine apps

Improved Settings for Updates
Users can have now better control over updates as the settings for scheduling and installing updates have been improved slightly. Check out the screenshot showing comparison of update settings in Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10

Unity Greeter has not been made default yet but LightDM now uses system theme and default wallpaper.
