[Unity Updates] Disable App Suggestions in Dash, New Switcher, Keyboard Shortcuts Overlay and More

Ubuntu 12.04 is receiving lots of new features making it more customizable and user friendly. The performance has also received tremendous boost and everything is really fast and more snappier.

Lets look at these changes and new features. Some of the features have already landed in Precise while many others are available in Unity Staging PPA.

Pressing and holding Super key now displays a keyboard shortcuts hint overlay. This feature can be disabled from Compiz Config Settings Manager.

Finally you can easily disable software recommendations in main dash menu. Just select Local Apps only from new sources option. This feature works with Unity2D too.

New Super+Tab Switcher lets you scroll between shortcuts on Unity launcher. Releasing the key launches a new window or reveals a running application window.

Nautlius received dynamic quicklists support making it easier to access your bookmarked folders.

Unity 2D now have buttons for maximizing and minimizing dash. Ubuntu button design has been improved to match BFB from Unity3D.

Other minor changes include a broader overlay scrollbar thumb and new spin buttons.

To try these features in Ubuntu 12.04, run the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:unity-team/staging
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
