Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 Released, Changes and Screenshots


Ubuntu 12.04 'Precise Pangolin' Beta 2 has been released with new features, fixes and performance optimization. The main highlights of the Beta 2 includes new Unity version 5.8 and HUD support in Unity 2D.

Lots of under the hood work has gone into this Beta as Unity feels really snappy. Beta 2 is based on Linux kernel v3.2.12.

Lets look at some visible changes.
  • New option to display either a single launcher or a launcher on each display in a multi-monitor environment and option to turn off sticky monitor edges.
  • Unity 2D now properly supports HUD. Also HUD now respects launcher autohide and icon size settings.
  • Qucklists added to many default applications like Rhythmbox, Totem, Gedit, Brasero etc. 
  • A message is displayed when no results are returned in the Dash
  • Any app installed from Ubuntu Software Center is added to launcher by default and a progress bar is shown on the icon to indicate installation progress.
  • A new 'People Also Installed' category is shown in detailed application view
  • A new category for Canonical's Landscape Client has been added to system settings.
  • Other changes include: light theme improvements specially on unfocused window, launcher and dash in Unity 2D now properly takes average background color etc.
