Holyspirit, Free and Open Source Diablo Like Action RPG for Linux

Holyspirit is a free and open source isometric hack'n'slash game inspired by action role playing game, Diablo. The game is being developed by French game studio Alpha Arts.

You play as Holyspirit, an old corrupted soul who has been enlisted in God's army. You must liberate the country from the evil who has been unleashed against the living ones.

Check out the video:

I have played the game for an hour and I must say that the devs have done a great job. The game is enjoyable and everything runs pretty smoothly on Linux. There are some bugs but since it is a development version, the game will improve overtime. The video above shows French version but the game is available in English as well.

Installation Instructions

A pretty old Linux version of the game can be downloaded from Holyspirit website but in my testing it didn't work. If you want, try that from instructions below but I would recommend compiling the game from source code. The game code has undergone lots of changes so a bleeding edge version will give you better experience.

Run the following commands to download SFML 2.0. This is required for both method explained below:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sonkun/sfml
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libsfml2 libsfml2-dev

Method 1: Compiling on Your System (tested with Ubuntu 12.04)

Download source code from here (~675 MB).

Extract the tar archive, you will get a folder named lechemindeladam.

Fire up a terminal and CD to the following folder: lechemindeladam > trunk > Source

For e.g. cd /home/nitesh/Desktop/lechemindeladam/trunk/Source

Install required dependencies by running command below:

sudo apt-get install libpthread-stubs0-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libx11-dev libxrandr-dev libfreetype6-dev libglew1.5-dev libjpeg8-dev libsndfile1-dev libopenal-dev

In case some dependency is missing on your system, you can always check console output later and install them as required.

Now run the following commands:

mkdir build && cd build && cmake ..
make

Once the process has finished, go to Source > build folder. You will see a new game executable file named Holyspirit. Copy it to lechemindeladam > trunk folder, mark it executable and run it to launch the game.

Method 2: Older Linux Build

Download Holyspirit

After downloading, extract the archive and run LauncherHolyspiritLinux. You may need to give it executable permissions.

Holyspirit launcher is basically an auto updater for the game. It is pretty old and available in French language only. You can update the game and launcher to latest version by clicking on télécharger et installer

The auto updater will download both Windows and Linux files in the game folder so don't worry if you see .exe files.

Once all files are downloaded, run the game from launcher. If nothing happens, run Holyspirit file from game folder (with executable permissions).
