Win $1500 Prize in Open Source Game Making Contest

Are you a developer or an artist? Here is a chance to contribute to an open source project and win cash prizes at the same time.

Liberated Pixel Cup has been launched; a game making contest by Creative Commons, Mozilla, OpenGameArt and the Free Software Foundation.

The contest will be conducted in two phases:

Phase one of the competition is to build a set of artwork that's dual licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0 and GPLv3 and stylistically consistent. Phase one runs from June 1st to June 30th.

Phase two of this competition will be building GPLv3 or later games that incorporate artwork from the artwork building phase of the project. People can work in teams or individually. Participants will be judged based on fun factor, innovativeness, and of course how well they incorporate assets built for the contest. Phase two runs from July 1st to July 31st.

The art phase of the contest has the following three prizes:

$1500 USD: grand prize (team or individual)
$500 USD: secondary prize, individual only
