Script to Download Latest Chromium Build in Ubuntu

Rui Oliveira has written a handy bash script that downloads latest Chromium dev build on your system.

These builds are from Chromium continuous branch which hosts only those builds that have passed Google's automated test. So they will work on your desktop although may not be bug free as they are still development snapshots.

Here is what the script does:
  • Downloads the latest build, generated from the continuous branch.
  • Backups the old snapshot to /opt/chromium-cont/old (in case you want to revert to the previous version due to a bug).
  • Unzips Chromium and installs it to /opt/chromium-cont.
  • Creates a system symlink and a desktop entry for Ubuntu, you will find it searching "Chromium Updated" on Unity dash.
As the script installs to /opt/chromium-cont, it won't overwrite your stable Chromium installation. If you ever want to update, just run the script again.
