Ubuntu 13.04 May Drop Alpha Releases

Ubuntu 13.04 can drop Alpha releases and may adopt a monthly milestones model, as discussed in a session at UDS-R.

So, the first official development release is likely to be Ubuntu 13.04 Beta 1.

Interested Ubuntu users can always try daily builds to test a new Ubuntu snapshot. There are a number of reasons to remove Alpha milestones:
  • Targeting bugs is easy if there are monthly milestones.
  • Many products on Launchpad have their own milestones.
  • People keep using the Alpha images long after they lose value.
Ubuntu flavors may still follow a Alpha release model. Full session notes can be found here. Also check out Launchpad blueprint and Ubuntu 13.04 release schedule.
