Ubuntu Gets 1% Share in Steam Client Usage

Valve has published Steam hardware and software survey results for the month of December and Ubuntu has already got about 0.8 percent share in less than a month of public launch of Steam Linux beta.

The 64 bit Steam clients for Ubuntu 12.10 and 12.04 LTS show about double share of the 32-bit versions. Here is the breakdown:

Steam hardware and software survey is optional and not all Steam users participate in it, but the results do reflect a general trend.

It is also interesting to know 'Other' have 0.71% share, up by 0.14%. This category may include those users who are using Steam Linux on other distributions or those who are running Steam under Wine (Steam already tracks Wine users by detecting wine3d).

Mac users account for about 3.7% of all Steam usage, but considering the increasing number of Steam Linux users, it is quite possible that it may move down to third place this year.
